Rotary in India through “Rotary India Literacy Mission” has embarked upon one of the most comprehensive programs on Total Literacy and Quality Education. This mission wishes to achieve the literacy goals through its comprehensive program called TEACH.
TEACH stands for
T – Teacher Support
E – E-learning
A – Adult Literacy
C – Child Development
H – Happy Schools
RACGVP made TEACH a part of its various projects inorder to improve the learning methods of education in schools; to recognize and appreciate teachers; to create a happy learning environment for the students and to spread adult literacy in the society.
Teacher Support aims to improve the professional abilities and performance of teachers in selected primary/elementary schools through better training and use of modern teaching aids, so as to enhance the learning outcomes of students. RACGVP conducted a survey among students of ZPH School, Madhurwada to provide the selected teacher with the BEST TEACHER AWARD. Recognizing outstanding teachers instills them with renewed confidence and encourages them to perform better. There were also events conducted wherein few important subject topics were explained to the students by the Rotaractors. This was to lend a hand to the teachers in the schools and help the students in understanding such topics with utmost ease.
E-learning aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning experience through the use of curriculum based audio visual modules in local languages. RACGVP initiated E-learning events in ZPH School, Krupa Sadhana Orphanage, Viswabharathi Vidyalayam, and MPUP School to create awareness regarding the efficiency with which the teaching can be done with the help of e-learning. Not only this but the Rotaractors also indulged in explaining the students about e-mails, MS Word and other basics of a computer to make them aware of the technology with which today’s world is running.
Adult Literacy aims to impart functional literacy to non-literate adults (15+ age) in the society and to engage literate young adults in skill development training. To accomplish this RACGVP conducted various events in Rikshaw Colony (Kommadi) and Bakkanapalem village in which the Rotaractors helped the individuals to realize the importance of education and the need of literacy to overcome poverty.
To accomplish this objective RACGVP conducted awareness events in Krupa Sadhana Orphanage, Ammaodi Orphanage, ZPH School and Anand Margh Orphanage inorder to make the children aware of the role of education in their lives. The Rotractors interacted with the children to know what is keeping them away from school. At the end of the events, the children had all their questions answered; doubts clarified and ultimately understood the importance of education.
Happy School program is about improvement / upgrading specific infrastructural facilities of Government / Government-aided primary and elementary schools. RACGVP initiated various events under this program like Black board event, in which a survey is conducted to know the status of the Black boards in various government schools in and around Vizag city and the damaged Black boards are repaired. The Rotaractors contributed their part by conducting surveys and lending a hand in developing the schools.
